Rock a Shimmery, Summer Glow All Year Long with This DIY Glow Oil

Matte is out, shimmer is in—and that’s not just for lipsticks. International brands are coming out left and right with their own versions of glow oils, and us beach bums wanted a part of the action.

We came up with our own version, and you could probably find all the ingredients in your house. Hey, it’s not Fenty Body Lava, but it looks good-good.

Things you’ll need:

  • Clear coconut oil
  • Baby oil
  • Highlighters
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Empty bottle
  • Funnel (optional)

1. Mix the baby oil and coconut oil

The base of this mixture is only made up of these two oils. Depending on your purpose, you can actually ditch the coconut oil altogether and just go with a light baby oil so it’s more comfortable to wear during a night out.

If you’re planning to wear this under the sun to get a nice tan—mix in some coconut oil to get a good, even bake. We used a 1:1 ratio for this video!

2. Crush the highlighters

The great part about making your own glow oil is you can customize the color according to your needs. If you want a glittery finish, grab a chunkier highlighter. If you’re into more of a subtle glaze, go for one with a finer texture.

We took 2 (already broken) highlighters in our collection, and crushed them even more with a spatula until they looked like a zen garden.

3. Pour into the bottle

Depending on the size of your bottle, this next part might be difficult. We used a thinner bottle for portability, so we made use of a funnel to make pouring easier.

4. Mix

This part is fun just for the aesthetics of it. After watching the specs swirl into each other, just spritz and apply!

See this in action in our video!
